Two Men Arraigned on Separate Cases of Armed Robbery, Larceny from Boston Stores

BOSTON, July 25, 2022 — Prosecutors arraigned a Dorchester man this morning in the Central Division of Boston Municipal Court for dealing heroin at the Macy’s in Downtown Crossing and stealing merchandise from the store. This arraignment comes days after Wednesday’s arraignment in South Boston of a Hyde Park man charged with armed robbery of the Star Market on Morrissey Boulevard, District Attorney Kevin Hayden announced.

EDISON ARIAS, 29, is charged with trafficking heroin under 200 grams, distribution of a Class A substance and larceny under $1,200. Judge James W. Coffey ordered Arias held on $10,000 bail and required that he wear a GPS tracking device if released.

Macy’s security personnel called Boston Police at about 1:30 p.m. on Friday, July 22, after observing Arias dealing drugs and attempting to steal a shirt. Responding officers searched Arias and found 118 grams of heroin, $288, and two cell phones on his person.

Arias returns to court on August 18 for a probable cause hearing. He is represented by Attorney Paul Derby.

ANTHONY TUCKER, 55, is charged with armed robbery after attempting to steal a cart full of store items from Star Market in Dorchester while armed with a large silver knife. Judge Paul M. Treseler set bail at $10,000 cash with the conditions to stay away from the Star Market and stay away from all victims. He also allowed a motion to revoke bail.

At around 11:47 a.m. on Tuesday, July 19, officers responded to a radio call for a person with a knife at Star Market on Morrissey Boulevard. Upon arrival, officers spoke to the victim.

The victim observed Tucker leaving the store with items without paying for them, and attempted to intervene. Tucker became verbally aggressive towards the victim, yelling, “don’t stop me, don’t try to stop me!”

Tucker then began making threatening gestures, such as motioning at his waistband, suggesting that he was going to brandish a weapon. When the victim called the police, Tucker fled without the stolen items.

Officers eventually found him on Old Colony Ave and discovered a large silver knife in Tucker’s pants. Tucker has an extensive history of violent offenses. He returns to court for a probable cause hearing on September 19. He is represented by Attorney Brad Stanton.

“These are businesses with high volumes of shoppers.  Their employees, managers and customers deserve to be able to work and shop in peace.  We bring discretion to all prosecutions, but armed robbery of groceries and drug dealing inside a store cannot be tolerated,” Hayden said.
