Mattapan teen facing charges after police find multiple firearms and high-capacity magazines in home

BOSTON, October 10, 2023 – A teenager was arraigned last week in Dorchester BMC after police found multiple firearms, high-capacity magazines and more than 100 rounds of ammunition in his Mattapan home while investigating another teen shot near the home, District Attorney Kevin Hayden announced.

CEDRIC BRINSON JR., 19, was charged with possession of a firearm without an FID card, possession of ammunition without an FID card, and possession of a large capacity firearm. Judge Margaret Albertson ordered Brinson held on $15,000 bail and that he wear a GPS tracking device if released, with a curfew from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Brinson is due back in court on November 6.

Brinson could face additional charges due to accessories and partially built firearms seized at the scene.

At about 5:43 p.m. on October 2, Boston police responded to a person shot at the intersection of Topalian and River streets. Officers observed the victim, an 18-year-old male, sitting in the front passenger’s side of a grey Mercedes parked in a driveway on River Street, bleeding from gunshot wounds to his left shoulder and left cheek.

Officers spoke to the owner of the vehicle, who said he was inside his house when he heard the victim in the driveway say “ow.” When the owner of the vehicle went outside, he observed the victim bleeding and pacing up and down his driveway. The victim told the witness he was shot but the witness did not hear a gunshot and did not see anyone else with the victim.

The victim told police he was walking on River Street when he was shot in the shoulder and described the shooter’s vehicle as a black two-door coupe that continued toward Mattapan Square. The victim was unable to provide any other identifying information.

Officers observed a blood trail leading to the rear door of a neighboring house. Officers also observed what they believed to be bloody handprints on the wall around the door.

An individual, later identified as Brinson, arrived on scene and identified himself as the tenant of that house. Brinson told investigators he met the victim on Snapchat and invited him over earlier that day. The victim and his friends left to go to another room as Brinson stayed upstairs. Brinson then heard a loud bang, went downstairs and saw the victim get into a car in the driveway.  Brinson said the victim’s friends were no longer with him. Brinson then left his house and ran to a family member’s house.

While inside the house, officers observed a blood trail on the first floor but did not find any additional victims. A search warrant was executed the next day and investigators found three Glock firearms, five large-capacity magazines including two 31-round handgun magazines and a 30-round rifle magazine, several partially built firearms, more than 100 rounds of ammunition and numerous other firearm manufacturing accessories.

“This is deeply disturbing on numerous fronts.  First, the sheer amount of firepower is frightening.  Second, the indication is that firearms were being built that we can reasonably assume would have ended up on the street.  And third, the person apparently responsible for it all is only 19 years old. That’s the tragedy on top of all the potential for community danger,” Hayden said.

All charged individuals are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
