Bail revoked for Boston man charged with rape, assault on police officers

BOSTON, January 3, 2024 – A Boston man has been ordered held on $5,000 bail and also had his bail revoked on an earlier case after being charged in Boston Municipal Court Central today with raping a woman on January 1 at a Bowdoin Street apartment and then assaulting numerous police officers who attempted to arrest him after he was identified by the victim, Suffolk District Attorney Kevin Hayden announced.

MILTHON CORREA-REGIFO, 45, is charged with rape, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (shod foot), resisting arrest, two counts of indecent assault and battery on a person over 14 and two counts of assault and battery on a police officer.  Judge James Coffey set $5,000 bail on the charges and revoked Correa-Regifo’s bail on a 2022 assault case.  Correa-Regifo will return to court January 31 for a probable cause hearing.

At about 2:16 a.m. the victim, 26, approached a State Trooper near Ashburton Place and told him that she had just been raped inside an apartment on Bowdoin Street. As the victim and the trooper spoke, a man emerged from a Bowdoin Street apartment and walked toward them.  The woman saw the man, later identified as Correa-Regifo, and said, “yeah, it was him.” Correa-Regifo became belligerent when the trooper approached.  An off-duty Boston police officer assisted the trooper in attempting to place Correa-Regifo under arrest.  Correa-Regifo violently resisted arrest both at the scene and at Boston Police Area A-1, where officers attempted to book him.  He screamed at officers, attempted to bite them, and spit at them.

The victim told police that Correa-Regifo bit her on the buttock before raping her. Several police officers sustained minor injuries during the struggle with Correa-Regifo.

“This is yet another example of how quickly a situation can escalate and how unpredictable each minute of a police officer’s life can be.  I’m thankful that neither the victim or the officers sustained serious injuries, but clearly an incident like this has repercussions above and beyond any physical injuries for sexual assault victims,” Hayden said.
