Dorchester man charged with driving getaway car in shooting that left woman paralyzed held without bail pending dangerousness hearing
BOSTON, October 24, 2025 – A Dorchester man is facing a dangerousness hearing in Roxbury BMC after being arraigned Thursday for his role in a shooting earlier this month that left a woman paralyzed and a restaurant riddled with bullets, Suffolk District Attorney Kevin Hayden announced.
DEVANTE STINSON, 23, of Dorchester was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without an FID card, possession of a firearm in commission of a felony and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building.
Judge Lisa Ann Grant ordered Stinson held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing October 29.
At about 4:09 p.m. on October 8, Boston police responded to 258 Dudley Street for a person shot. Officers located a female victim, 25, lying on the sidewalk suffering from a gunshot wound to her back. Officers also observed ballistic damage to a nearby restaurant and vehicle and recovered approximately 20 spent 9mm Luger shell casings.
The victim was transported to a local hospital where she was treated for a gunshot wound near her spinal cord, resulting in immediate loss of movement from the waist down.
The victim reported coming from a doctor’s appointment with her boyfriend. As they walked past the liquor store and Vasquez Restaurant on Dudley Street, they heard several gunshots. The victim and her boyfriend ducked for cover. When the victim attempted to get back up, she collapsed and was unable to move.
Investigators reviewed extensive surveillance footage of the area before, during and after the shooting. Video shows a gray Hyundai sedan park at the intersection of Dearborn and Dudley streets. The shooter is seen exiting the rear passenger-side door and running toward 258 Dudley Street, where he takes a shooting stance.
A portion of the shooting is captured on video, including the intended target and the victim. The intended target is seen standing outside of the restaurant but immediately runs into the restaurant to take cover when he notices the shooter approaching. Video shows multiple projectiles striking and entering the front of the restaurant, which was occupied by numerous patrons and employees.
The shooter is seen getting back into the gray Hyundai before it speeds away.
Through video and social media postings, investigators were able to identify Devante Stinson as the driver of the Hyundai.
Police have identified the shooter and an arrest warrant has been sought.
“My heart goes out to this innocent victim, who was doing nothing more than walking from a doctor’s appointment on a weekday afternoon before getting hit by a bullet meant for someone else. This is one more terrible outcome of too many guns on our streets and too many people willing to use them anywhere, anytime,” Hayden said.
All charged individuals are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
