Roxbury woman charged with stabbing during road melee

BOSTON, June 5, 2025 – A Roxbury woman was arraigned Monday in Roxbury BMC for a May assault during which she struck a man with her car and then stabbed him, Suffolk District Attorney Kevin Hayden announced.

DANIELLE STOKES, 42, of Roxbury was charged with two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (car and knife).

Judge Lisa Ann Grant ordered Stokes held on $1,000 bail. Stokes is due back in court on July 14 for a pre-trial hearing.

At around 3:01 a.m. on May 13, officers responded to a radio call for a person stabbed at Marvin Street and Shawmut Avenue in Roxbury. Upon arrival, officers found the victim lying in a pool of blood. The victim told officers he had been stabbed.  Officers observed lacerations to the victim’s forehead and hand.

Witnesses told officers they observed Stokes and the victim fighting and called 911.

Surveillance video shows that at 2:04 a.m. a gray Audi SUV driven by Stokes struck a man, who was later identified as the victim, on an electric scooter on Roxbury Street. Stokes and a passenger, later identified as JACQUELINE ADEYEMI, 54, of Boston, then exited the car and made their way toward the victim. As the victim returned to his scooter and began to move away, Stokes made punching motions toward him.

Around 2:57 a.m., the same SUV is seen on camera stopping in the middle of Marvin Street, close to where the victim was stopped on his scooter. The victim approached the car.  Both Stokes and Adeyemi exited the vehicle and the three began fighting. Adeyemi is seen holding an unidentified object, either a bat or stick, and striking the victim with it.

A warrant has been issued for Adeyemi’s arrest. She faces a charge of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

At some point during the fight, both the victim and Adeyemi were knocked down and Stokes was observed standing over the victim with an object in her right hand, believed to be a knife. She made stabbing motions with the object while dragging the victim along the street. Both women were observed standing over the victim while he was on the ground, unable to move.

The victim, 45, was transported to Boston Medical Center. Eight plastic bags containing a rock-like substance believed to be crack cocaine fell from the victim’s pocket as he was being treated by emergency department personnel.  The victim will be summonsed to court on a charge of possession to distribute cocaine, subsequent offense.

“This was a chaotic, continuing incident taking place in the middle of the street with, luckily, witnesses present and surveillance cameras nearby. Anyone thinking they can engage in violent conduct in this day and age with no chance of being observed is kidding themselves,” Hayden said.

All charged individuals are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
