Boston man facing charges after assaulting two elders, a police officer

BOSTON, July 17, 2025 – A Boston man was arraigned in BMC Central this month after he violently attacked an 80-year-old woman and a 78-year-old man in June unprovoked, leaving one of the victims with severe injuries, Suffolk District Attorney Kevin Hayden announced.

ABRAHAM GALINDO, 31, of Boston was charged on July 3 with assault and battery on a person over 60 or disabled with serious injury, assault and battery on a person over 60 or disabled, and assault and battery on a police officer.

Judge Steven Kim released Galindo on personal recognizance with the condition that he remains under the care of a psychiatrist and on his medication.

Galindo is set to return to court on September 18 for a pre-trial hearing.

Around 4:48 p.m. on June 7, Boston police responded to a radio call for an assault and battery in progress at 131 Clarendon Street. On arrival, officers observed a civilian bystander restraining an unknown male, later identified as Galindo, on the sidewalk. As officers secured a handcuff on Galindo’s left wrist for safety, Galindo used his right hand to strike the officer in the face with a closed fist.

Witnesses informed officers that Galindo assaulted an 80-year-old female and 78-year-old male. The female victim was found lying on the ground, complaining of severe pain to her ribs.

The attack was caught on a security camera located at the Clarendon Garage. The footage shows Galindo sprinting across the intersection of Clarendon and Stanhope streets without warning or provocation and violently colliding with the female victim, knocking her to the ground.

The victim told officers that Galindo approached her quickly and pushed her to the ground with both hands. She said he punched her multiple times with a closed fist as she lay on the ground. The victim told officers “I’m lucky to be alive. He almost beat me to death."

The male victim witnessed the assault and tried to intervene. The video footage shows Galindo grabbing the man by his collar and shaking him aggressively and repeatedly.

While attacking the male victim, Galindo dragged the female victim several feet across the pavement.

The female victim sustained a fractured patella, fractured ribs, abrasions to the face, elbows, and hands, as well as extensive bruising and soreness. Boston EMS transported her to Brigham and Women’s Hospital for further treatment.

Due to bleeding from his mouth and concerns about his mental state, Galindo was transported to Boston Medical Center for psychiatric and medical evaluations. He was subsequently hospitalized following the incident until three days before his arraignment.

“The facts here indicate possible mental health issues with the defendant, which will be dealt with appropriately as the case moves forward.  I wish the two victims fast and full recoveries.  Our victim witness advocates and prosecutors will provide them with complete support through the court process. I’m very grateful for the Good Samaritan who intervened and may have prevented further injury to these elderly victims,” Hayden said.

All charged individuals are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
