Roxbury man to appear in court Friday for assault, Social Security debit card theft

BOSTON, July 22, 2025 – A Roxbury man will be arraigned Friday in Dorchester BMC for an April home invasion where he knocked an elderly man unconscious and stole his Social Security Express debit card, Suffolk District Attorney Kevin Hayden announced.

JUAN BLANCO, 66, of Boston is held on charges of home invasion, assault and battery on a person over 60 or disabled with serious injury, assault and battery on a person over 60 or disabled, and larceny from a building.

On July 18, Judge Thomas Kaplanes ordered Blanco held without bail until July 25, when he will appear in Dorchester BMC for appointment of counsel and arraignment.

Around 1:30 p.m. on April 9, Boston police responded to a home invasion call at Bowdoin Street in Dorchester. Boston EMS workers assisted the victim, 68, who complained about head and face pain. The victim had a swollen nose with cuts and dried blood inside and outside, as well as a swollen lip.

The victim told officers that Blanco knocked on his door sometime between 11 a.m. or 12 p.m. The victim said he opened the door because he recognized Blanco and considered him a friend, though he wasn’t aware of an impending visit.

The victim told police that when he opened the door Blanco hit him in the face with the back of a knife. The victim fell to the floor and lost consciousness. The victim said he called police after waking up dizzy and in a pool of blood.

The victim told officers that Blanco made off with his Social Security Direct Express Card, which was loaded with $1,000 and had the PIN written on the back. Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Blanco after the victim identified him from a photo array.

Blanco has a history of committed time on his record as well as a multitude of assault and battery and assault and battery with deadly weapon charges.

“This incident has an added dimension of sadness given that the victim told investigators he knew and was friends with the person who attacked him and stole his social security card,” Hayden said. “It’s hardly behavior one would expect from a friend.”

All charged individuals are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
