Man Charged in Brutal Robbery and Attempted Murder

BOSTON, August 7, 2020— Armed assault with intent to murder and several other charges were brought in a warrant against STEPHON SAMUEL, 25, of Lynn. The charges stem from a July 14, 2020 robbery of the M&R convenience store on Shawmut Avenue in Roxbury, District Attorney Rachael Rollins said today.

Samuel, who is currently held in the Plymouth County House of Corrections on different charges, will be arraigned at a future date. “I want to thank the Boston Police homicide unit and the BPD Forensics unit for their excellent work in this horrifying case,’’ said DA Rollins. “Today we got to tell Tanjim Siam’s family that we found the person that shot Tanjim and left him for dead. We continue to pray for Mr. Siam’s recovery as he remains in critical condition.  My office will do everything to hold Mr. Samuel accountable for his violent disregard for life and the unimaginable pain he has caused Mr. Siam’s family.’’

The investigation, which includes video surveillance from the store, revealed the clerk, Mr. Siam, complied with Mr. Samuel and turned over cash from the register.

“That was not enough for Mr. Samuel; he took Tanjim into a different part of the store and attempted to execute him,’’ said DA Rollins. “Mr. Siam survived and is clinging to life as we speak.  He is a fighter and we are hoping for his full recovery. My heart goes out to his family. I hope that holding Mr. Samuel responsible for his brazen violence, which we fully intend to do, brings the Siam family some small amount of solace.’’

In addition to attempted murder, charges of armed robbery with a firearm, possession of firearm, possession or ammunition and Level 1 armed career criminal were taken out against Mr. Samuel in the Roxbury Division of the BMC today.

All charged individuals are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law.
